Thank you for renting land in the Peterson Land Group.  Please make sure you have been invited to the group for information and updates.


This is a Steampunk Residential sim with light commercial and a variety of attractions.  The expectation is that activites which draw traffic here and any advertising be consistent with the Steampunk culture of the sims.  


Please be consistent with the theme:  Victorian Steampunk San Francisco and New Orleans.  If you build something and it gets removed, most likely it should not be on these sims.  


Furthermore this is NOT a combat sim.  Likewise it is NOT a Force Collar area.  There are no slaves in Mieville.  Those seeking submissive roles may choose to be servants, in the style of Victorian culture.  For all, this is a place of relaxation and retreat as well as learning.


Prices are set in Linden Dollars.  Rental boxes take payments in Lindens.  They automatically update according to the current exchange rate, so from time to time you may notice a change in your rental price.  


What is a residential SIM?

This land is for residential use only.  No clubs or malls can be built.  You can sell out of a small shop on your land or in your home but nothing big or laggy is permitted.  You may NOT sublet or share your land without express permission from Perryn Peterson.  


You do NOT own your land:  you are renting it.  You may pay for from one to 52 weeks in advance.  If you leave with proper notice (one week) your rent will be refunded less a small service charge.  You will be able to set "home" and all other privileges you might expect as a land owner.  Perryn Peterson and Estate Managers MUST have access to your land at all times.


*If you fail to make payment you will be charged a late fee of $5.00 or 15% of the rent which ever is greater.


*If you fail to make your payment after 1 week your land will be reclaimed and your belongings returned.  (Please notify Perryn Peterson if a RL emergency prevents you paying your rent on time.  Each such case will be individually adjudicated.)


*If you break any zoning or Linden Labs or community standard rules, you are at risk of losing your land.  A warning will be issued and you will lose your land after three warnings.


*You cannot sub-rent or share your land without permission as stated above.


*If you purchase a security device you MUST allow Perryn Peterson and his designated Estate Managers onto your land at all times.


* The rental box must NOT be covered by any of your prims and MUST be accessible to Perryn Peterson and/or Estate Managers AT ALL TIMES.  If you wish your rental box moved, please notify Perryn Peterson.


Editing land:

You can terraform the land + or – 40 m but such terraforming must not be disruptive of a flowing natural landscape where your land connects with others.  To be clear, because these are integrated sims, the overall landscape must resemble what would naturally occur.  If you are not sure that what you want to do is acceptable, speak with Perryn Peterson or Estate Managers.


Subdividing Land:

You may not subdivide your land into smaller parcels. The intention of these islands is to maintain a quieter residential or commercial atmosphere.  


Land Security:

Mieville Guardians provide security to the region.  Their security policies supercede all Tenant-specific security policies.  The Guardians have placed security radars on all SIMs and reserve the right to remove anyone whom they deem dangerous to the security of Mieville.   Tenants have the right to further ban individuals from their property through local About Land settings.  Any disputes or issues should be taken to Perryn Peterson.

We have the honour to welcome you to Mieville, a 19th century Victorian Steampunk continent.


These sims are wholly owned by Perryn Peterson and the Peterson Islands Group.  The buildings apart from those held privately, intellectual property and some characters/avatars come under the aegis of said entities.


These sims are rated "Mature".  However, public nudity is prohibited and courtesy is expected of everyone.  Nineteenth century garb and activities are appreciated.  You will find many interesting places to explore and sights to see here.


There are, so far, 4 sims included in Mieville:


Mieville Twain, to the northwest... marvelous boating on the lake, available for sailing and steamships.  You will find docks to the south leading to the industrial district, and another to the east, entry to Mieville Shelley.


Mieville Shelley, to the northeast, is home to posh residential dwellings, Victorian mansions, lovely parks... and cable cars!


Mieville Wells, the industrial section to the southwest, is the site of many factories and other sorts of businesses as well as tenements and Mieville Chinatown.  You'll find a warehouse where building can be accomplished, should you wish it, truck gardens and a farmer's market and the dock for the ferry to Mieville Shelley.


Mieville Verne boasts lovely shoppes, museums, libraries and the like, as well as  ------------ Park, with a Japanese Tea House, fountains, enjoyable gardens and an opera theatre.


Everyone you might meet has a role to play and a life to live here in SL.  From the proverbial butchers, bakers and candlestick makers to inventors, innkeepers, scientists, librarians, doctors and lawyers, they are to be found in Mieville.  Our residents are extremely talented artists and craftspeople as well as imaginative, creative dreamers.    


Many cultural events are held here, from dances to opera, from poetry readings to treasure hunts.  Join us!  Throughout Mieville, you will find items offered free to you from our generous shopkeepers and builders.


If you are interested in living in Mieville, please drop Perryn Peterson an I/M (often get capped) or notecard.  We'll meet and have coffee!  If you would like to join the group and receive notices, there are kiosks all over Mieville that will offer you membership, which is at no cost.

Mieville is made up of private island sims.  They adhere to a Victorian Steampunk theme, roughly the period from 1835-1395.  Each sim has its own theme.  Please plan on adhering to the theme for the particular sim in which you are interested.  Some sims have sections which have even more interesting themes, such as Chinatown on ---------------- .


Every structure placed here, whether built by you or purchased ready-made, MUST be approved by Perryn Peterson or one of his officially designated representatives (Estate Managers).  There will be absolutely no exceptions to this rule.  Structures are to be Victorian with Steampunk touches encouraged.  


Surroundings may change with the seasons.  There will most likely be snow during the Christmas season, for example.  You are encouraged to decorate your home or business accordingly.  Seasonal events are similarly desirable.  


WHAT IS NOT PERMITTED IN MIEVILLE:


Yard sales, outdoor malls, lucky chairs, modern signs (for sale, casino, camping, etc.), non-theme structures, walking-signboard avatars, scams (including the attempt to sell items that are available free elsewhere), clubs (but inns approved ahead of time are fine), gambling for Lindens or real currency, racial or other prejudicial slurs, hate speech, public nudity or public overtly sexual activity.  


No one under 18 will be permitted in Mieville which are designated Mature Sims.  Child avatars are permitted BUT no sexual activity of any kind involving them will be tolerated.  


Weapons such as personal knives, daggers, bows, pistols, etc., are permitted to be worn but not discharged except on designated firing ranges.  In-theme and appropriate decor such as displaying cannons on your pirate ship is allowed.  No modern weapon of any kind is permitted.
